Support starts with a conversation

The National Council on Problem Gambling’s help service connects people with local resources. Its current National Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738); call or text, or use the chat link on its official page. You can seek support about your own gambling or its effect on someone close to you.

Set boundaries before a session

Decide in advance how much time and money you can afford to spend, keep essential expenses separate, and stop at the limit you chose. Avoid borrowing to play or increasing a stake to chase a loss. If holding to those limits is becoming difficult, a break and outside support can be more useful than another strategy.

Use account and state tools

Look for deposit or spending limits, time reminders, cooling-off options and self-exclusion in the operator’s responsible gaming section. Check whether an exclusion covers one account, a group of brands, an entire state program, online products, retail venues or a combination. Do not assume one request blocks every gambling website in the country.

The appropriate state regulator explains the scope of its own exclusion program. Follow that official process, keep the confirmation and ask the operator or regulator about any unclear terms. Casino Masters cannot submit an exclusion, reopen an account or enforce a block for you.

Social and sweepstakes play can still affect you

Optional purchases, repeated sessions and chasing a prize can become difficult to manage even when a service uses entertainment credits or a promotional model. The label on a currency does not make spending harmless. Use purchase controls and closure tools when needed, and seek support if play is affecting your finances, sleep or relationships.

Helping someone else

Choose a calm time to talk, describe specific concerns and listen. You do not have to solve the problem alone. NCPG’s official resource page includes help by state and information about treatment and peer support. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
