Slot RTP: separate the percentage from your session

A return percentage describes the game’s design over extensive play. It cannot tell you how much one visit will cost.

A percentage of stakes, not savings

RTP stands for return to player. The theoretical figure describes prizes relative to stakes over a very large amount of play. It is not an interest rate, a guaranteed refund or a promised result for a person who deposits a particular amount.

Work through the house-edge calculation

Suppose an imaginary configuration has 97% RTP. Subtracting from 100% gives a theoretical house edge of 3%. On €400 in cumulative stakes, the corresponding mathematical expectation is €12. That does not mean depositing €400, nor does it limit a session’s loss to €12. Repeatedly staking a smaller balance can create much greater turnover than the original deposit.

Volatility explains a different feature

The same long-run return can be distributed through different prize patterns. More frequent smaller prizes and rarer larger prizes can coexist with similar RTPs. A higher-volatility label does not make a major win due after a losing run, and past spins do not establish what the next result must be.

Find the current paytable

Check the game version and its own help information. A familiar title can be supplied in more than one configuration. A general catalogue entry or an old review may not identify the exact version in a particular lobby. Missing figures should remain unknown rather than being replaced by a more attractive number.

The Gambling Commission’s RTP explanation and monitoring guide provide technical background, not Irish licensing evidence. Try the demo catalogue to understand controls, or browse NetEnt demos. Practice credits cannot be withdrawn. The bonus-terms guide explains why turnover requirements are a separate calculation.
